Which paper types can I print?
Each type has its own page with presets, examples and answers to common questions:
- Printable Graph PaperSquare grids from 1/8 in to 1 in, 2 mm to 1 cm, with heavier lines every 5th or 10th.
- Lined Paper PrintableWide, college and narrow ruled, A4 ruled and handwriting rows with a dashed midline.
- Dot Grid Paper PrintableDots 3 mm to 1/4 in apart, three dot sizes and an optional binding margin.
- Isometric Graph PaperA 30° triangle grid for 3D-style drawings, as lines or dots.
How does the paper generator work?
The generator draws every line from your settings. The rule is the same for all grid types: the number of squares is the usable width (paper width minus both margins) divided by the square size, rounded down. Any leftover space is split evenly, so the grid sits centred on the sheet. The preview and the PDF are drawn from the same numbers, so what you see is what prints.
The PDF is vector artwork with real lines at the exact sizes, not a picture, so it stays sharp at any zoom and prints cleanly. Paper sizes are US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) and A4 (210 × 297 mm).
How do I print the PDF at the right size?
Open the PDF and choose Actual size or 100% in the print dialog. Do not choose “Fit to page” or “Shrink to fit”, which rescales the paper and changes the square size. In Adobe Acrobat and Reader this is under Page Sizing & Handling; in Chrome and Edge set Scale to Default (100%); in Safari and Firefox set the scale to 100%. Pick the same paper size in the printer settings as in the generator (US Letter or A4).
To check, measure a few squares with a ruler: 10 squares of 1/4 in should be 2½ in, and 10 squares of 5 mm should be 50 mm. Home printers cannot print right to the page edge, which is why the generator keeps a margin (0.5 in or 10 mm by default).
Frequently asked questions
Is the paper generator free?
Yes. It is free, there is no sign-up and no watermark. The PDF is made in your browser, so nothing is uploaded to a server.
Should I choose US Letter or A4?
Use the size of the paper in your printer. US Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches (215.9 × 279.4 mm) and is the standard in the United States and Canada. A4 is 210 × 297 mm and is the standard in most other countries. The generator picks a starting size from your browser language, and you can switch at any time.
Why do my squares print too small?
Almost always because the print dialog was set to “Fit to page” or “Shrink to fit”. Print at Actual size or 100% and the squares come out at the size you chose.
Are my settings or PDFs sent anywhere?
No. The page draws the paper and builds the PDF on your device. Your choices are stored in your browser only after you change an option, so they are there next time; clear your browser data for this site to remove them.
